A FEW WORDS ABOUT COVID-19
Η coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Most people who get COVID-19 experience mild to moderate illness symptoms and recover without special treatment. However, a percentage become seriously ill and need medical attention.
METHOD OF TRANSMISSION
The virus can be spread from the mouth or nose of the infected person through small liquid particles by coughing, sneezing, talking, singing or breathing. These particles range from large droplets produced by the respiratory system or smaller aerosols.
We can become infected by breathing in the virus if we are close to someone who has COVID-19 or if we touch an infected surface and then our eyes, nose or mouth. The virus spreads more easily indoors and in crowded places.
TRANSMISSION LIMITATION MEASURES
The consistent observance of personal hygiene measures is very important to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
Specifically:
- continuous hand washing with soap and water or alcoholic solutions (antiseptic-disinfectant soaps) for at least 20
- when we cough or sneeze we use a tissue or the crook of our elbow.
- we keep a safety distance of at least 2 meters to protect ourselves.
- we avoid handshakes, hugs, kisses.
- we avoid gatherings in closed spaces with many people and unnecessary visits to hospitals.
- the use mask (simple surgical or FFP2/KN95) protects when someone who is sick wears it so as not to infect others. It does not offer additional security to the asymptomatic wearer.
- The detection test of the virus does not make sense to do in asymptomatic people.
When we present (gently) symptoms, we put mask and isolate ourselves from others. We are NOT going to the hospital.
When we have persistent high fever and shortness of breath (panting, difficulty breathing, inability to complete a sentence) we go to the hospital. This is especially true for people who belong to high-risk groups.
When we come into contact with a possible or confirmed case, we put on a mask and confine ourselves to our homes (always protecting our loved ones) for 5 days and until we test negative.
